A question that is often asked by newcomers to the world of fly fishing and people interested in trout, in general, does trout have scales. The easy answer is that yes, the trout has scales and a good amount of them run through its outer body and skin.
Other species of trout that also have scales are brown trout, rainbow trout, brook trout, and lake trout.
Usually, the scales are incredibly tiny and maybe barely noticeable at first. If you pass your hands over a rabbit in one direction through its body it feels soft to the touch, however, in case you pass your hands in another direction, you can really feel the roughness of this sin and this is really the scales around the trout.
A very singular characteristic of the trouts is that they vary of tonality according to the age, species, and state of mind. Most of them have a band of color on their sides which, in the case of the common trout, is golden. It can also be distinguished by the yellow tone of its belly, and some red and greenish spots, wrapped in white rings, which spread all over its body. With the light of the sun, it radiates luminosity.
It is an elongated fish, with a rounded tail and smooth scales. Its mouth is so large, that it extends to the lower part of the eyes. The robustness of its head is very unique.
The trout is corpulent. It can reach 15 kilograms in weight and measure from 25 to 90 centimeters. The most developed ones are those that live in mountains and plain rivers.
THE BEST KNOWN TROUT
There are many varieties of trout. The rainbow, for example, is very similar to the common trout. It is bluish-green, dark on the back and white on the belly. Its streaks are black and its flanks are orange or reddish. It is seen in North America, Europe, and South America. It does not usually exceed 40 centimeters.
The lake trout reaches greater dimensions; usually one and a half meters. The lakes of the pre-alpine zone and the Alps are their natural habitat.
Very similar to the salmon is the sea trout or prisoner. Species of up to 20 kilos have been caught in the Atlantic and the Baltic Sea.
In the United States and Europe is very common to find the cut-throat trout, named for the long line that forms in that part of its skeleton. In these same places, the so-called Golden Trout also proliferates, whose body reflects particular golden flashes.

In its wildlife, it eats fish, crustaceans or insects. Anything that moves and is within reach can be “appetizing” to them: frogs, worms, crabs, tadpoles, shrews, water mice, and even smaller trout.
There are several methods of hunting. Sometimes she positions herself close to the surface and jumps up to hunt in the air, but other times she stands still waiting for some animal to be dragged away by the current so that she can devour it.
If it is in captivity, it is provided with agglomerates of fishmeal, natural pigments and other compounds containing vitamins and minerals.
REPRODUCTION AND MORE
The average life span of a trout is 8 to 10 years if it manages to escape from the fishermen who are looking for it for human consumption. It is one of the most sought-after fish due to its multiple benefits. It helps to lose weight and to regulate the blood pressure.
The reproduction of the trout takes place between January and March, and it is very limited. The males of this species look for space where the female will spawn, and where several of them will place their sperm.
The incubation process lasts 40 days, but after that time the adults move away without giving any kind of protection to the eggs. Therefore, although the female may lay about 10,000 eggs, only four may reproduce.
Trout tend to migrate to reproduce, but always moving in freshwater, very different from other fish like salmon, which move from the sea to the river.
PRESENTATION AND QUALITY
On supermarket shelves it is possible to find fresh and frozen trout in different presentations: filleted, sliced, with or without bones. There are also places where they offer trout caviar, pâté, and even smoked trout.
Its taste is very simple, as it is quite low in salt, but its meat is abundant.
Before buying it, you should check that the external skin is shiny and slippery.
Inside it must be pink. Its smell must be fresh and light, and the pulp must be firm to the touch.
PROPERTIES OF TROUT
Considered as an oily fish, the trout has a therapeutic action. It contains vitamin B, iron, calcium, fiber, zinc, potassium, vitamins C, E, K, D, and phosphorus. Its high composition of vitamin B5 makes it an ideal foodstuff to counteract stress, headaches, and high cholesterol levels.
It is very appropriate for weight loss plans, as 100 grams of trout only provides 90 calories and 3 grams of fat.
